Tetra Tech EC, Inc. Services Munitions Response
Munitions Response

TtEC has accumulated a successful track record over the last 20 years performing a variety of munitions and explosives of concern (MEC)/unexploded ordnance (UXO) projects. TtEC has safely completed more than 4,000,000 labor hours and $400 million in MEC contracts. We have worked at over 500 military installations and completed more than 200 MEC tasks worldwide.

TtEC maintains a full-time staff of UXO specialists and UXO qualified divers that are equipped with state-of-the-art data collection and detection equipment to provide comprehensive MEC risk management, detection, clearance, and removal services. Our in-house expertise and experience includes underwater MEC response and remote sensing for munitions response tasks along the coastline.

Using state-of-the-art equipment, coupled with proprietary software and positioning instrumentation, we successfully locate buried ordnance and are able to reduce the number and cost of excavations. This translates into substantial cost savings as well as assuring the safe and immediate removal of items with the greatest potential to cause harm. TtEC combines geophysical interpretation, risk assessment, advances in field instrumentation, computer modeling, improved data collection tools, and our own proprietary analysis software on every clearance project. This approach has significantly improved our ability to discriminate metal objects from MEC to provide a safer, more cost-effective means to remove ordnance.

As a firm that self-performs MEC work, we maintain full control of all cost, schedule, and quality issues. Furthermore, our strong program management history with DoD, combined with established, government-approved accounting and procurement systems, enables us to effectively manage MEC projects from inception through completion — further reducing performance risk to our clients. Our MEC capabilities are enhanced by TtEC’s integrated quality management approach that includes both process and product QC. Our proactive approach to process QC enables us to achieve and maintain quality. By ensuring that specific project activities are performed correctly the first time, we significantly reduce the requirement for rework.

TtEC has provided UXO services around the globe in many challenging environments, including the rugged, stormy Aleutian Islands; the frigid waters of Puget Sound; and the inhospitable deserts of Iraq. With a nationally recognized health and safety program, and as the first major environmental firm to have all of our services certified to ISO 14001, TtEC consistently offers clients a safe, compliant, and proven approach to identifying and removing MEC.
