Kuwait Oil Waste Management Project, Afghanistan

Tetra Tech EC, Inc. (Tetra Tech) was awarded a 5-year contract in the amount of 7.04M KD ($26M) to handle waste for Kuwait Oil Company (KOC). KOC owns 70% of the land in Kuwait and has over 1,100 oil wells. This contract provides the first comprehensive recycling operation and the first continuous full scale petroleum contaminated soil treatment operation in Kuwait.


The scope of services is the provision of waste management Services for KOC’s entire operational facilities including Gathering Centers, Booster Stations, Tank Farms, Water Treatment/Injection plants, Marine Terminals and outside facilities in the operational areas.


The project covers the collection, transportation, segregation, treatment and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes, which includes waste management associated with garbage, recyclable and non-recyclable wastes collected from KOC’s operational areas. All wastes are collected, transported, reduced, reused, recycled, recovered, or treated and/or disposed in situ or in the landfills. Oily sludge and oil contaminated soils will be treated to recover the oil and render the remaining material non-hazardous.


Tetra Tech has completed the construction of operation facilities at three sites; North Kuwait, West Kuwait and South & East (S&E) Kuwait. The S&E Kuwait site is over 500,000 m2. The NK and WK sites are over 250,000 m2. These facilities will encompass the solid waste separation, recycling, composting and waste processing operations.


The project involves the procurement and operation of 51 vehicles, 12 pieces of major equipment, and 1,200 waste containers; and employs 148 personnel including seven Kuwaiti Project Management personnel.
