TtEC developed a comprehensive Remedial Action Plan (RAP) for a 300-acre former Rho Refinery of Agip S.p.A. (Agip) complex located close to Milan, Italy. The refinery was operated for about 40 years, starting in 1953, for the production of gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, and lubricating oils for the Italian and European markets. In 1992, refinery operations shut down and dismantling and cleanup activities of the process plant were initiated. During this phase, Agip initiated a detailed and comprehensive site assessment to hydrogeologically characterize the site area.

Agip initially contracted with TtEC to prepare a comprehensive RAP for the entire site area. As a result of TtEC’s performance, Agip expanded our contract to include additional site investigations, remedial design, and construction, bringing the value of the contract to $50 million.

Project Highlights

• Achieved $10 million in cost savings and a 3 year schedule savings as a result of TtEC’s value engineering of original concept, which resulted in revised site grading and raising the elevation of the bus tunnel.

• Met an accelerated cleanup schedule, which required TtEC to perform additional thermal desorption of 210,000 tons of contaminated soil.
