Second Line of Defense (SLD) Project, Various Locations |
|
Tetra Tech was contracted by the DOE National Nuclear Security Administration to provide support to the Second Line of Defense (SLD) program to enhance international nuclear safety and non-proliferation, as well as reducing the global danger from weapons of mass destruction. We have been involved in the development, design, testing, installation and commissioning of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom-designed nuclear detection systems, as well as supporting visual surveillance and communication infrastructure at various ports of entry, including border crossings, seaports and airports.
Project Highlights
- Installed more than 360 radiation portal monitors and associated communications infrastructure at over 100 international locations
- Provided, within a 5-week period, engineering, design, procurement, fabrication, and installation services for a temporary nuclear detection system to support security during the 2004 Olympic Games, including three pairs of vehicle monitors, a central alarm station system, six cameras, drop bars, and a control booth
- Designed and developed standardized mobile and rapidly-deployable nuclear monitoring and detection systems in the US, including installing 20 portal-type detection systems at testing and training grounds in Colorado and Washington
- Installed a total of 108 monitors, including six at the temporary facility, as well as 9 central alarm station systems, 99 network cameras, 89 utility panels, numerous drop bars and speed control systems to complete the project within an aggressive 7-month schedule
- Worked closely with Port of Rotterdam security and operations personnel to accomplish security objectives while minimizing impact on overall port operations
